Abstract

Households, as the smallest environment in society, contribute to the generation of waste. To reduce the occurrence of soil, water and air pollution in the environment due to household waste, organic waste can be processed into compost.  The purpose of this activity is to increase the knowledge of partners through awareness and demonstration and invite the community to manage organic waste in their environment to be composted. The service was conducted in Bukit Permata Sumbari II Housing located in Pekanbaru. The partners are housewives who live in the housing with a total of 15 people. Activity methods include awareness raising, counseling, demonstration and evaluation. The knowledge and understanding of housewives in Bukit Permata Sumbari II Housing towards processing household waste into compost increased by 23.70%. Participants had basic knowledge about the utilization of household waste into compost by 69.63%, while after counseling it increased to 93.33%.  Housewives have the skills and are able to make compost, although the results are not optimal because the organic waste is still large, so the composting process takes a long time.
